10/26/2008 - Scottsdale, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Cameron Beckman parred the second playoff hole Sunday to defeat Kevin Sutherland and win the Frys.com Open at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The second playoff hole was the difficult 17th at Grayhawk and both players landed in the short grass of the tee.
Sutherland played first and hit a terrible shot right of the green. The ball bounced along a cart path and left Sutherland with a nearly impossible pitch to the green.
Beckman hit a spectacular approach right of the putting surface, but the ball took the hill down within seven feet of the stick.
Sutherland hit as good a chip as he could, but the ball ran through the green. Knowing Beckman was in great shape to at lest two-putt for par, Sutherland tried to hole his chip, but could not.
Beckman rolled his birdie putt past the hole, but stepped up and converted the par save for his second PGA Tour victory.
What helped even more was that Beckman was headed to his 11th appearance at Q School, but now is going to Hawaii to start next year at the Mercedes-Benz Championship armed with a two-year exemption.
"I can hardly even see straight," said Beckman, whose other victory came in Mississippi in 2001. "I've been there before and I can't wait to go back."
Beckman fired a seven-under 63 on Sunday and Sutherland had a four-under 66. The pair finished regulation tied at 18-under 262.
On the first playoff hole, both players found the fairway off the tee and had similar lengths into the green. Sutherland's approach stopped nine feet past the stick, while Beckman's came up close to 30 feet short.
Beckman ran his almost five feet past the hole, opening the door for Sutherland. He appeared to rush his stroke a bit and Sutherland's birdie putt for the win never threatened the hole. Sutherland tapped in for par, then Beckman made the gutsy par save to move to the 17th for the second extra hole.
Then it was an errant shot by Sutherland and an accurate one by Beckman that gave Beckman the title and the $900,000 first-place prize.
"I just had the go-for-it attitude," said Sutherland. "I was trying to take down the pins and make some putts. My putter kept me in it. I'm just ecstatic."
Mathew Goggin fired a seven-under 63 and missed the playoff by a single stroke. The Aussie finished the championship at 17-under 263.
Defending champion Mike Weir challenged to be repeat winner, but came up short. The former Masters champion shot a seven-under 63 and tied for fourth place with J.J. Henry (64) and Arron Oberholser (66) at 14-under 266.
Sutherland appeared to have the tournament in control after three consecutive birdies from the sixth, two of which were inside 10 feet. After a 20-footer for birdie at eight, Sutherland was three ahead of the field.
Beckman lurked, although he was only one-under on his round through eight holes. He rattled off three straight birdies from nine to inch closer, but Sutherland was still in command.
Beckman did narrow the gap to two, but Sutherland extended the margin with a five-foot birdie putt at 12. Beckman got it back down to two with a birdie at 14, then ran home a six-footer for birdie at 15 to get it to one.
Sutherland followed in the next group with a birdie of his own at 15. Beckman holed a 10-foot birdie putt at the par-three 16th and Sutherland could not quite manage birdie at the same hole.
He missed right of the target at 16, but gave himself six feet for par. Sutherland missed the putt and he was now tied with Beckman, who drove into the left rough at 18.
Beckman sank a four-footer to save par at the last, then watched as Sutherland had 13 feet for birdie and the title. Sutherland missed and the two went to a playoff and Beckman got win No. 2.
Pat Perez (63), Michael Sim (64), Steve Allan (69) and Players Champion runner-up Paul Goydos (69) tied for seventh at minus-13.
George McNeill, who was second at the start of Sunday's final round, struggled to a one-over 71 and dropped into a large group tied for 11th place at 12- under 268.

American Idol odds : Blake Lewis the Early Standout
An important American Idol betting lines recap from February 20 Guys episode. The 12 men came out flat overall with Blake Lewis appearing to have the early edge after the first hour and a half.
Rudy - was quite good singing "Free Ride" to start off. Randy was not impressed though. Paula thought he started off fantastic. "Never had anyone stop off so lively" said Paula but Simon (who does not like Rudy) does not feel he has a distinct voice and was not impressed either.
Brandon was a little pitchy according to Randy and Paula agreed. Simon said he was a good singer but the song was "too safe" and he needs to make an impact. He was listed at +1200 odds or $1200 paid out on a $100 bet should he win the competition.
Big favorite Sundance came in with a flat version of "Knights in White Satin" and the judges let him have it, including Paula. Randy claimed the song was out of pitch throughout.

22 year old Chris Richardson was up next. He was listed with +1100 odds coming in. He got the best response from the judges though Simon did not believe the vocal was that great.
Nick was boring and pitchy. Simon didn't think he was that bad though and predicted he would be back next week. Nick Pedro was a big +3000 dog coming into this competition.
Beat boxer Blake Lewis was listed with early +1000 odds or $1000 payout on a $100 bet if he were to become the next American Idol winner odds . These of course were the early odds. He was considered original for picking an "odd song". He did not beat box and the judges felt it was the best vocal of the night.
Sanjaya came in as the second biggest favorite after Chris Sligh but his performance Tuesday night was not very good.
Chris Sleigh was the early favorite at +450 odds. Great voice and a great sense of humor. He's a real standout. Randy felt it was on point but maybe ahead of the chorus a little bit. Simon Cowell said he felt like he was in some "sort of weird student gig".
Jared Cotter followed. He was listed with +2000 odds early on to win the competition. The judges felt he needs to take more risks but looked good.
22-year old AJ Talbado, who has tried out for American Idol five times, was up next. "Kind of a theme park performance" said Simon. Though the judges felt he performed okay. Simon did feel AJ might be better than he originally thought.
Phil - this season's military favorite - came into this competition with +1200 odds to win the competition. He was the last to perform. He was certainly strong enough to get through this stage of the competition and perhaps the best one after a shaky start.
