08/11/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated veteran outfielder Shannon Stewart from the disabled list on Monday, but then quickly released him.

Stewart, who went on the disabled list on June 8 with a right ankle injury, hit .240 with one home run and 14 RBI in 52 games this season.

The 34-year-old was a first-round pick of the Blue Jays in 1992 and spent the first eight-plus seasons of his career in Toronto before being moved to Minnesota in 2003. While with the Jays, Stewart scored more than 100 runs in each season from 1999-2002 and over the course of his 14-year career he has batted better than .300 six times.

Stewart, who rejoined Toronto at the start of this season, appeared in 146 games for the Oakland Athletics last year and hit .290 with 12 home runs and 48 RBI while scoring 79 times. The 146 games were his most since playing in 155 games for the Jays in 2001.
