01/18/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The dismal Philadelphia Flyers will try to halt a six-game losing streak tonight, when they welcome the New York Islanders to the Wachovia Center.
The Flyers last played Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins and were handed a 5-3 setback. Evgeni Malkin had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Penguins.
Peter Forsberg had a goal and an assist and Simon Gagne also scored for the Flyers, who have also dropped eight straight at home. Antero Niittymaki allowed four goals on 38 shots faced.
Philadelphia has an NHL-low 26 points and is on track for the worst season in franchise history. The Flyers' lowest point total for a single season was 58 in 1969-70.
The Flyers have lost 16 of their last 19 contests (3-15-1) and suffered through a club-record 10-game losing streak during that stretch.
Tonight marks the end of a three-game homestand for the Flyers, who are just 3-13-4 in the City of Brotherly Love this year.
The Islanders are also coming off a loss to the Penguins after dropping one in the Steel City on Tuesday. Sidney Crosby and Erik Christensen notched a pair of goals each to lift Pittsburgh to the 5-2 win at Mellon Arena.
Richard Park and Arron Asham tallied for the Islanders, who have lost three straight and nine of 11. Mike Dunham made only 17 saves in a rare start in place of No. 1 goaltender Rick DiPietro, who has played in 36 games this season. It was Dunham's first start January 2nd.
The Isles, who are 10-12-1 as the visitor this year, play the middle test of a three-game road trip tonight.
Philadelphia is 2-1 against the Isles this season and has taken six of the last eight matchups overall.
