Former GM Gillick to remain with Phillies

Baseball Betting Lines

11/03/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Pat Gillick, whose contract as general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies expired last Friday, will remain with the team in a different role, the team announced on Monday.

Only a few hours after Ruben Amaro, Jr. was officially introduced as Gillick's successor to the Phils' GM post, the 71-year-old will return in an unspecified advisory capacity.

"I am very happy that Pat has opted to stay on board with us," said Amaro. "His knowledge of the game is invaluable and his innumerable resources will be a tremendous asset to any team's baseball operations."

With the Phillies' World Series title, Gillick has presided over three champions. He was the architect of the Blue Jays' back-to-back championships in 1992-93, while also leading the Orioles and Mariners prior to coming to Philadelphia.
